Spring & Summer 2018 / by Jasmine Reimer

Current:

In May I wrapped up an intensive nine months of studio production in Toronto. After four months of travel, research and a residency at The CAMAC Art Centre in France, I returned to Toronto and began making over one-hundred monochromatic green sculptures. The work will be exhibited in a solo exhibition at Forest City Gallery in London ON Canada in September 2018.  I've invited three brilliant artist-writers to respond to the work; Hiba Abdhallah, Beth Stuart and Trevor Mahvosky will write about certain subjects within the exhibition. In addition, artists Patrick Cruz and Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau will respond to the installation via performance in a special event scheduled during the run of the show.  A bus is being organized to bring people from Toronto to London for the opening reception on September 6th and performance events. Please look for bus transportation details on my website and the FCG website soon!I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Before leaving for Berlin to complete a residency, I participated in an excellent group exhibition at Clint Roenisch Gallery in Toronto, ON Canada. The show, 'A Place in the Country', opened April 28th and was extended until June 2nd. It featured work by Jason de Haan, Claire Greenshaw, Lisa di Quinzio, Marlon Kroll, Sky Glabush, Jennifer Murphy, Darby Milbrath and myself.

Also, currently on view at Eyelevel Gallery in Halifax, Nova Scotia are four small sculptures custom made for the annual ERI 8 'Inner/Outer Space' multiple exhibition. The work is titled, 'An Angel on the Shoulder is a Devil in the Hand' and are available for sale via the gallery. View the catalogue here: https://www.eri8.art/deliveries/

Currently, I am completing the 'green work' in Berlin at The Institute fur Alles Mogliche residency in Berlin, Germany. Its been hard to keep to a regular schedule with the Berlin Biennale events but I am happy with my progress. I'm working on a performance/video in which I transform my body into 'green' and move throughout various stages of interior/exterior while also exploring the word 'natural' and earthly relationships associated with the feminist body.

Upcoming:

I am excited to announce that I will be participating in a group show in Manila, Philippines in June 2019. Not only will some of the 'green sculptures' be featured but I am going to attempt the first of what is hopefully a live, site-specific performance in the gallery at the opening reception. The exhibition is being curated by renowned artist/curator Gerry Tan at Mono8 Gallery and will feature new work by Juan Carlos Quintana, Carlo Ricafort, Timo Roter, Gerardo Tan and myself. More soon!

Following the exhibition at Mono8 I am excited to announce that I will participate in The International Studio and Curatorial Residency in New York, NY from September to January 2020. I am honoured to have been accepted into this celebrated program where I will begin researching and making a new body of work!
